Adhesive-backed cool-cutting sandpaper sheets for all surfaces have an open-coat ceramic abrasive applied to a paper backing. PSA abrasives have a sticky backing that creates a strong bond when attached to a smooth-surface backing pad. They cannot be reapplied after removing, so they're a good choice for applications where grits aren't changed frequently and the abrasive is fully worn down before changing. Open-coat abrasives have grit on about 50% of the surface leaving space between the abrasive grains to prevent swarf from clogging the surface which keeps the workpiece cooler. Ceramic self-sharpens faster than other abrasives to remove material quicker. Quicker material removal speeds up the work and keeps the surface cooler, making ceramic a good choice for heat-sensitive metals.
